Lights of My Life #1

This is essentially a Favourites series I plan to do, although today's post mostly seems to feature things that were in reaching distance of my bed. And is only being done because I want to avoid the other 250483739 things I have to do today. Still. Onwards!

1. The Crimson Petal and the White

I hadn't heard of this book, I must confess, until I watched the recent BBC adaptation of it... but I completely and utterly fell in love with it! It follows a prostitute called Sugar in Victorian London. It's a hefty tome at 833 pages, but I think it's going to be worth it. This is a dark, raunchy story, it's full of bad language, sex and squalor... and it's so good.

2. Decleor Aromessence Ylang Ylang Purifying Serum

I got a couple of samples of this (rather expensive) serum off eBay and tried it last night. This isn't featured for its properties as a serum, but the smell. SO amazing! It's pretty strong (read very strong) but if you like it, it's unbelievably mouthwatering. Yum.

3. This port on my computer.

Um... yeah. When I got my laptop, this was one of those random ports that I didn't really notice. It's the memory card reader slot, and it's become sooooo useful as a blogger! I can never ever find my cable to connect my camera, and with this I can pop my memory card out and have pics on the computer in a jiffy. Technology can be a nuisance, but it can also be pretty awesome when it actually works.

4. Physics.

Again... yeah. I LOVE physics. Which is odd, considering I'm an English and Drama student. I do think the only reason I didn't do astrophysics at university was because I'm rubbish at maths, and couldn't face the other physics aspects like electricity which I find less interesting. This week I learnt about quarks, who Riemann is and why the night sky is dark. I also started a mini research project purely for my own use. Although sadly I'll probably never use anything I learn about physics (I can dream) I think it's great to have topics you find really interesting, and like enough to research and learn about them on your own. Particularly now I'm finishing university, I'm so excited to be able to learn about anything I want.

5. e.l.f.

I got my third order from e.l.f. today, and just wanted to sing their praises a little bit! Although they can be a bit hit and miss with their products, they are one of the cheapest and most wide ranging brands around and great fun to play with. Also when they get a product right, they can be amazing. In particular I'm looking at my e.l.f. Stipple Brush, of which I've just ordered a spare because I love it so much. And it's only £3.50!

And what I don't love this week:

My camera. It's an ok camera, but I've just noticed it's only 0.1 megapixels better than my phone camera. Also I've been having real issues getting the detail I want for blog shots. I don't really have the money for a new camera, but it's definitely something I'm going to think about getting when I do. I'd love a big proper camera, but I also want something portable- I'd never actually use a big camera if I had one! Dream on Luxie...

The rain. Actually it's fine inside, but I have to go outside later. Gah. Also it usually means my room is really dark and hard to take pics in!

Here are some awesome people I love:

Hope you're all well!

  1. Woo! You mentioned meee :D that book looks amazing I've decided I must get it, it sounds like the perfect book to read after 3 years of literary stuff! I felt the exact same way as you when I found the memory card port on my laptop because I'd lost my cable somewhere between here and home, so it was perfect and SO GOOD for blogging! (Also for stealing other people's photos after major events i.e. weddings etc, just grab their camera for a few minutes and voila)
I'm also really tempted to buy the ELF stippling brush now, I was actually watching one on ebay (because I am that skint) but then told myself it was an unnecessary expense...may reconsider it now! xxx

  2. Wellllllllllll that's cos you're awesome! :D I've just been reading before bed, and I'm really loving it! And it's much more interesting than uni reading :D Hahaha we must set up a FB page or something dedicated to our love of memory card ports :P I didn't even think about the events thing! Big love ♥
Well I love it cos I can't afford to even look at anything like MAC brushes, but it's soft, easy to wash, doesn't shed, I really love it! Do you want to buy my spare one and save the delivery money? :) I've got my eye on a few other things anyway to do another order (who needs food anyway :P) so I can live with my one and get another spare next time! xxx
